Visit Pipestone National Monument

HIawatha House is located downtown on Hiawatha Ave which is the same road that Pipestone National Monument is located off of.  Just one mile down the road.

There is a wonderful museum where you can see people make Native American Pipes.

Pipestone is a holy place for Natives of the surrounding tribes.  For thousands of years, many Native Americans made yearly pilgrimages here to carve the sacred pipe out of the layer of Pipestone in the quarry.

Walking the grounds and hiking the area is open to anyone.  The trail to Winniwissa Falls is paved, making it handicapped accessible.

Explore Fort Pipestone

Just one mile away, discover Fort Pipestone!  Free admission.  With a beyond amazing gift store inside with the most wonderful Native treasures inside.

My son said to mention the rock candy that they sell in the store.
